The new windows are in… and aside from arriving to the house to find the workers had already started and were pulling out the wrong windows, we had arrived in time so no additional damage was done to the outside trims of the windows… crisis averted. Although, we did find a few cracks in the master frames which means our window vendor will be back out to the house to finish up and correct some installation problems.
We also spent most of the weekend removing cruddy, old wallpaper and ugly siding from the interior and exterior, respectively, of the home this weekend. I had a constant craving for salt and vinegar potato chips... probably from smelling our wallpaper removing solution... hot water and vinegar. This concoction worked amazingly well.
We managed to de-winterize the heating system. Our boiler passed inspection and our first delivery of oil for the season is scheduled. Yay!
As for the plumbing system… we still have a few clogged drains, a leaky toilet and a kitchen sink that is falling apart. We have running water… just cold… and the electric water tank will need replacing. No shocker, of course.
I am discovering some great finds on the internet. I managed to find a couple of salvage yards about 1-2 hours away and will be making a visit to the mill yards next weekend to pick up some building material. I am still looking for wood doors to replace the ones the previous owner destroyed upon foreclosure. And if I find a couple of interior 15 lite French doors at the right price and the right size, I might pick up a couple and replace them in the house to its original design.
